Our Verdict
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid is a 13″ hybrid mattress made of memory foam, poly foam, and a pocketed coil base. A 1.25″ quilted cover gives the mattress a plush feel and deep contour.
This mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. This restrained feel also helps to limit motion transfer when sitting or lying on the mattress.
The Pressure Smart Hybrid is available in two firmness levels—medium (5) or slightly firm (7).
In our performance tests, this mattress has an overall score of 8.28, ranking the mattress in the bottom 27% of all mattresses tested to date. This is not where we like to see any mattress, but even more so when the price is above average, like we see on this Beautyrest.
A queen mattress is $2250, $886 more than the average hybrid ($1,364), adding an extra 36% to the overall cost. In many cases, there are better value hybrids available than the Beautyrest Pressure Smart mattress.

How is Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid Different?
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart is a hybrid mattress with below-average overall performance, but also a price that is considerably above the average. These are not the numbers we want to see when looking for a great value hybrid.
Advantages
That being said, there are a handful of advantages to the Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid. In our tests, we measured lower levels of motion transfer than average and better pressure relief.
This mattress is 13″ thick, 1″ thicker than the average 12″ mattress. The thick profile also means that it can have a slightly thicker comfort layer—4.25″ thick on the Beautyrest.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce on the medium version. You’ll need to enjoy a decent amount of contour to find the Pressure Smart Hybrid suitable to your needs.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages include below-average cooling performance, slower material response time, and slightly worse-than-average edge support (especially when sitting directly on the edge of the mattress).

The sex score also struggles, but that is largely due to the lower levels of bounce. It is nearly impossible for a mattress with low bounce to score highly in the sex category since active bounce is so critical for amorous activities.
Cooling Test
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid has good cooling. During our tests, I felt a slight level of heat retention around my body, but it was nothing too extreme.
Baseline Temp.
75.1° F
Max Temp.
91.8° F
Ending Temp.
82.7° F
In addition, while it wasn’t exactly the coolest, it also didn’t rise to the level of feeling “hot”. The mattress is equipped with a cooling cover and while said cover is slightly cool initially, it unfortunately did not retain that cooling feel for very long into our tests.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
The mattress is also a hybrid, so we have a layer of pocketed coils on the base. Those coils help provide an air gap and bring more air into the mattress.
While they are absolutely helping to improve cooling, they simply aren’t enough to overcome the limited breathability of the top cover and comfort foams in the mattress.
All that to say, cooling isn’t bad by any stretch, but it certainly doesn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding level.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.8° F. This is 2.1° more than the average of 89.7° F, based on all of our tests to date.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

After getting off the mattress the temperature declined by 4.9 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.1° cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8°.
When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.
Sinkage Test
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.37″. This is 0.22″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.15″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.37″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a dramatic body contouring due to the more traditional memory foam layer that’s immediately under the quilted cover. That memory foam layer is doing most of the heavy lifting when it comes to body contouring and hug.
That same memory foam is also slower to respond back to its original shape and has a more traditional feel. This is neither good, nor bad, but it does mean that you’ll need to prefer the feel of more hug, more contour, and more memory foam to be comfortable on the Pressure Smart Hybrid.
Motion Transfer Test
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 7.98 m/s². This is 9% less motion transfer than the average of 8.74 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
3.24 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-4.74 m/s²
Accel. Range
7.98 m/s²
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
The thick 4.25” comfort layer, 1.0” traditionally formulated memory foam layer, and low level of bounce are all working together to keep motion transfer held to a minimum.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.15 seconds. Immediately thereafter we see a huge decline in motion transfer and by 0.50 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy.

Both the motion duration and motion intensity are below average. Overall, motion transfer is low and I don’t expect it will be an issue for most sleepers.
Response Test
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a moderate mostly recovered response time and a slow fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.6 sec.
Complete Recovery
1.4 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.6 seconds, which is 0.18 seconds slower than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.4 seconds, which is 0.44 seconds slower than the average of 0.96 seconds.
The Pressure Smart mattress is really a tale of two foams. The poly foams within the mattress return to shape reasonably quickly, but the memory foam takes several moments to recover to its original shape.
Fortunately, the Pressure Smart Hybrid mattress has more poly foam and coils than it does memory foam.
As a result, the response time to mostly recover has a moderate recovery speed. Certainly, there are mattresses on the market with a slower material responsiveness and worse ease of movement than the Pressure Smart Hybrid.
However, there are also many mattresses with faster response and better ease of movement. At the end of the day, this mattress has a below-average material response speed and will be harder to move around on.
Bounce Test
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 6.51″. This is 2.86″ less bounce than the average of 9.37″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.38″
Max. Rebound

The quilted cover, 4.25” comfort foam, and more traditional 1.0” memory foam layer are all working together to reduce bounce.

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
While the coil unit provides more bounce than a support foam will, the comfort materials within the Pressure Smart Hybrid significantly reduce the total level of bounce.
The lower bounce definitely is helping to keep motion transfer lower. However, it also makes it more difficult to move around on the mattress, increases the potential to feel stuck in the mattress, and negatively impacts sex performance.
Edge Support Test
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid has good sitting edge support and good lying edge support. In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.50″. This is 0.44″ more sitting sinkage than the average of 4.06″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max Sinkage
4.50″
Lying Support
Good
While sitting directly on the edge I was reasonably well supported and there was no collapse of materials. Notably, the Pressure Smart Hybrid has more sinkage than average, so it could definitely be better. Even so, most sleepers should still find it good enough.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support is a similar story. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good in all sleeping positions. That said, much like sitting edge support, it doesn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding level.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

This mattress struggles with the same basic edge support issue that many mattresses topped with memory foam do. That memory foam wants to hug and contour the body, which is great while in the middle of the mattress.
However, while lying on the edge that contouring hug creates a weakening of the support for the part of your body nearest the edge of the mattress. Notably, the Pressure Smart Hybrid is equipped with a support foam that runs along the edge perimeter of the mattress.
The foam is 8.0” tall and 4.0” wide. This foam is likely having some impact on edge support and yet, still leaves something to be desired.
Sex Test
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid has fair sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal, cooling is good, and pressure relief is excellent. Edge support is good enough, though at 4.50” of sitting sinkage compression, it’s certainly not amazing either.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 6.5 | Low |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.1 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
Where the mattress struggles the most is bounce. In our tests, we measured just 6.51” of bounce, which is considerably lower than the average. The lack of bounce means that couples will find sex on the mattress more strenuous, more tiring, and more difficult.

When it comes to bounce, more is almost always going to yield better sex performance. Ideally, I want to see 10” or more bounce. Bounce is the single biggest sex performance detractor for the Beautyrest Pressure Smart.
Pressure Relief Test
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points anywhere on my body. The mattress is comfortable and creates a dramatic body contouring hug where you really feel the memory foam.
Comfort Layer
4.25″
Support Layer
8.75″
The mattress is equipped with 4.25″ of comfort material, which is 0.1″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.15″, based on all of our tests to date.
Next, let’s talk about foam quality. The memory foam looks and feels like a nice, high-quality gel memory foam. However, I’m not blown away by the thicker poly foam within the core.
I wouldn’t call it a low-quality foam, but it doesn’t feel as high performance as the memory foam and it certainly doesn’t feel as quality as many other high-response poly foams we’ve tested.

My fear is that the poly foam within the core of the mattress won’t be as durable as the memory foam. All of which is a little disappointing considering the $2.2K price tag.
Lastly, our pressure mapping tests helped confirm our subjective assessments with a max PSI of 1.04. A PSI of 2.0 is considered a high pressure point and the Beautyrest Pressure Smart is much lower than that in all sleeping positions.
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.

Off-Gassing Test
The Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid had a strong smell upon its initial arrival. The mattress smelled for 3 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
3 days
This is 3.4 days less than the average of 6.4 days. Notably, the mattress arrives uncompressed in a bag. The bag does trap some of the off-gassing odors, but overall, I’m pleased with the level of smell and rapid heat dissipation.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Beautyrest Pressure Smart Hybrid is excellent. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 8.75″ support layer.
This is 0.88″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.87″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress uses a non-zoned coil unit, but does include a layer of gel memory foam within the middle of the mattress to create more support where most sleepers carry most of their weight.

Perhaps most notably, the Beautyrest Pressure Smart is available in a wide range of firmnesses, including plush, medium, firm, extra firm, and plush and firm with pillow top configurations.
The table below details which firmness is available from each mattress type.
Beautyrest Pressure Smart | Firmness Available |
---|---|
Standard | Plush, Plush Pillow Top, Firm, or Extra Firm |
Hybrid | Medium or Firm |
Lux | Plsuh Pillow Top or Firm Pillow Top |
Having all of these different configurations ensures that there is a support and comfort dynamic that is appropriate to your needs, preferences, sleeping positions, and body weight.

The Cover
This mattress has a 1.25″ quilted cover with a plush feel. A blue and teach cross stitch makes a nice accent on this mattress and tufted stitching holds the cover taut to the surface of the mattress.

The Comfort Layer
Beneath the cover is the comfort layer, which includes two layers of foam. On top, we see a 1.0” memory foam (blue foam) followed by a 2.0” poly foam (white foam). These foams work together to provide comfort an pressure relief above the support layer.

The Support Layer
The support layer contains an 8.0” pocketed coil unit followed by a 0.75” high-density support foam at the base of the mattress.

A thick perimeter foam encases the pocketed coils and is designed to improve edge support, although edge support still struggled a bit during our tests.

Product Evolution
Beautyrest has been around since 1925 and first started selling mattresses online in 2017, with their first release of vacuum-compressed mattresses sold, ready to ship, and packed in a box.
They are a well-established company with one of the longest-standing company history. Beautyrest is owned by the parent company, Simmons.

The Winkbed is the highest-performing hybrid mattress tested to date and outperforms the Beautyrest in all 8 categories we test for. The Winkbed is available in three firmness options and also has a lower price tag, only $1499, making the Winkbed an outstanding value hybrid with deep sinkage (like the Beautyrest).
For More Bounce

Leesa Sapira
9.48 Overall Score
The Leesa Sapira is an 11″ hybrid with moderate sinkage and very high levels of bounce. This mattress has a 3.5″ comfort layer and a pocketed coil base. The price is $1699 for a queen mattress, 25% less than the price of the Beautyrest. The only real disadvantage to the Sapira is struggling edge support, which performs slightly worse than the Pressure Smart Hybrid.
For Pressure Relief

Nolah Evolution 15
9.28 Overall Score
The Nolah Evolution 15 is a high-profile 15″ hybrid with deep sinkage and moderate bounce. It is available in three firmness levels—soft, medium, or firm, making it an attractive option to sleepers with varying needs.
