Best For
- Fast material response time
- Outstanding pressure relief with 15.5″ thickness
- Very deep sinkage and contour
Considerations
- Higher levels of motion transfer
- No trial period and very limited returns
- Edge support is good, but not great
Our Verdict
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex mattress is a 15.5″ hybrid mattress that uses a blend of latex foam, poly foam, and a pocketed coil support base.
It comes in a single firmness option that is a 4 out of 10, which gives it a soft feel. This makes it a good pick for lightweight sleepers or moderate-weighted side sleepers looking for that deeper level of sinkage and contour.
It’s overall performance score is lower than the average for all hybrids and all mattresses tested to date. As far as price, it is a good deal more expensive than the average hybrid and average of all mattress types (35% more).
While this mattress has some advantages, its price point, non-existent trial period, and high levels of motion transfer can make the Align Latex Hybrid a tough one to recommend strongly. Among all mattresses tested to date, this mattress scores in the bottom 15% of all we have tested.

How is Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid Different?
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid has an overall performance that is below average and a price that is above average—33% more expensive than the average hybrid ($447 more for a queen).
Generally, this is not the combination that you want if you’re looking for a good value mattress, but let’s dive into some of the specifics.

Advantages
The Align Latex Hybrid has fast material response time and a thicker-than-average mattress profile. In our tests, it was 15.5″ thick, which provides 6.0″ of comfort material (nearly 2.0″ more material than average).
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deeper sinkage than average and bounce levels that are right at the average. These two factors tend to be more preferential than anything else, but certainly worth considering depending on the type of feel you’re looking for.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages include slightly poorer cooling performance, poorer edge support, and strong off-gassing. Another big disadvantage to consider is Ashley’s lack of any trial period. Excluding manufacturing defects, all sales are virtually final and not subject to refunds if you end up not liking the feel of the mattress.
Cooling Test
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid has good, but far from great cooling performance. In our tests, I felt a slight to moderate level of heat retention.
Baseline Temp.
79.8° F
Max Temp.
91.0° F
Ending Temp.
84.1° F
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
While the mattress does use latex and pocketed coils, both of which help to reduce heat retention, it also still includes 5.0” of memory and poly foam layers. It’s this 5.0” comfort layer that retains much of the heat, thereby reducing cooling performance.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.0° F. After getting off the mattress the temperature declined by 3.7° from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.85° warmer than average.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

The temperature declined by 6.9° from minutes 0 to 5, which is 0.12° warmer than average. While the thick 6.0” comfort layer is great for pressure relief and comfort, it’s not doing any favors for cooling.
Sinkage Test
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid has a very deep level of sinkage. In our pressure point sinkage tests, we measured a sinkage depth of 2.72”. This is 0.54” more sinkage than the average of 2.18”.
Sinkage Depth
2.72″
Sinkage Feel
Very Deep
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a dramatic body-contouring hug. The heavier portions of my body, including my butt and midsection, sank down extremely deep. Even my relatively lightweight legs, arms, and head had a significant sinkage.
With 6.0” of comfort foam and a softer feel the mattress really wants sleeper bodies to sink down into the foam, allowing it to provide pressure relief and comfort.
Motion Transfer Test
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid has a moderate level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.67 m/s². This is 13.8% more motion transfer than the average of 8.50 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
4.78 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-4.89 m/s²
Accel. Range
9.67 m/s²
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
The combination of a 1.0” latex layer, a densely packed quilted cover, and support coil base all contribute some measure of additional motion transfer.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.14 seconds.
After 0.14 seconds motion declines rapidly and by 0.79 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy. Both the motion peaks and motion duration were moderate.
Response Test
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid was a mixed bag for responsiveness. In our mostly recovered response time test we measured 0.3 seconds, which is extremely fast, and 0.1 seconds faster than the average of 0.40 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Complete Recovery
1.3 sec.
However, the fully recovered response time measured 1.3 seconds, which is 0.45 seconds slower than the average of 0.85 seconds. As expected, the top 1.0” layer of latex rebounds back effectively instantly.
However, the 2.0” memory foam layer within the core of the mattress takes a significant amount of time to recover to its original shape. As a result, the total recovery of the mattress is on the slower side at 1.3 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
In my view, sleepers are likely to be split on this issue. More sensitive sleepers will find the full recovery time is simply uncomfortable and makes the mattress more difficult to move around on.
However, less sensitive sleepers may find the 0.3 seconds to mostly recover is enough to be satisfactory.
Bounce Test
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid has a high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.66”. This is just 0.01” more bounce than the average of 9.65”.
Max. Depth
6.57″
Max. Rebound
3.09″
Total Bounce
9.66″
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
Ideally, I want to see bounce in the 8-12” range. At 9.66” the Align Latex Hybrid is in that sweet spot.
The middling bounce creates enough bounce to facilitate ease of movement and improve sex, without being so excessive as to create a high level of motion transfer.
Edge Support Test
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid was a mixed bag for edge support. Sitting edge support is good, but far from great, while lying edge support is excellent. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.75”. This is 0.64” more sinkage than the average of 4.11”.
Max Sinkage
4.75″
Lying Support
Excellent
When sitting on the absolute edge we experienced a significant level of material compression. Fortunately, there is a lot of material here, 15.5” of total thickness.
As a result, we are able to sink down more deeply while still maintaining the basic support structure of the mattress. Nevertheless, it is a deep level of sitting sinkage.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support was notably better. Even when lying directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

Despite the lack of reinforced edge support coils or edge foam, the mattress still provides good lying support, most likely due to the extremely thick 15.5” total profile.
Sex Test
The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.
These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.5 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 7.8 | Fair |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
This mattress has a moderate level of bounce and good edge support, but not the best edge support we’ve seen. Had the edge support been better, this mattress could have really shone in this category.

Edge support and bounce make up 80% of the sex score and are hugely important. Latex generally has higher levels of bounce than a memory foam mattress and tends to make it better for sex as well.
Pressure Relief Test
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex hybrid has outstanding pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure point build-up.
Comfort Layer
6.0″
Support Layer
9.5″
The mattress uses a thick 6.0” comfort layer consisting of 1.0” of latex, 2.0” of memory foam, and 3.0” of poly foam. The combination of different foam types creates a consistent and effective level of pressure relief.
Based on all of our tests to date, on average comfort layers are 4.2” thick. This mattress has 1.8” more material than the average.
The material types, material design, and soft feel ensure that most sleepers will find ample pressure relief with this Ashley mattress.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid is strong right out of the box. The odor took 11 days to fully off-gas.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
11 days
Compared to the average across all mattresses tested to date, this mattress takes over twice as long to off-gas. The average off-gassing period is 5 days.

While off-gassing rarely has any kind of long term effects on a mattress, it may still be an important factor to consider, especially for sleepers who are sensitive to strong odors.
Company
The company score takes a look at factors that may influence your experience with the mattress.
Factors include length of the trial period, warranty, shipping / return costs, and country of origin.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 0 | 0 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 8.0 | 10 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 0 | No / Very limited returns |
Trust | 50% | 8.0 | Good |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
The biggest hit against Ashley Sleep is the complete lack of a trial period. Comparing over 190+ mattresses that we’ve tested to date, the average trial period is 165 nights, where at any point you can return the mattress for a full refund.

This gives many sleepers the confidence to buy a mattress sight unseen because they know they can get their money back if it doesn’t work out.
Ashley offers no such policy and once the mattress arrives at your door, it is yours, with no exceptions barring manufacturer’s defects.
This type of a policy with virtually zero returns / refunds makes this an incredibly risky purchase for many consumers.
How firm is Ashley Sleep Align Latex?
The Align Latex Hybrid has a soft feel with a firmness of 4 out of 10 on the firmness scale. This is a softer feel than average and may not be suitable for all sleepers.

Support & Sleeping Positions
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid has excellent support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions.
The mattress has a robust 9.5” support layer (9.0” of pocketed coils + 0.5” of support foam). On average, we have measured a mattress support thickness of 7.8” (based on all of our tests to date).

The extra thick 15.5” total profile and thicker than the average 9.5” support layer work together to create the right material conditions for excellent support.
While the mattress does create ample support, it won’t be right for everyone. This is a soft mattress and only available in a single firmness.
As a result, it will be best suited to the needs of lighter-weight bodies and side sleepers. Back, stomach, and most heavier weighted sleepers should choose a mattress that is firmer.
Use the table below to see if this mattress is the right pick for you.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Maybe |
150-250 lbs. | No | Yes | No |
250-300 lbs. | No | Maybe | No |
Design
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid is a 15.5″ thick mattress with a soft feel, 4 out of 10 on the firmness scale (where 10 is the most firm).
Type
Hybrid
Thickness
15.5″
Firmness

Regarding mattress type, Ashley classifies this mattress a “latex hybrid”. However, we only have 1.0” of latex foam on top with 5.0” of other foam types within the mattress.
Given this fact, I would consider this more of general hybrid as opposed to a latex hybrid, specifically.

Materials
Moving on, let’s talk about materials. According to Ashley, this is a 15″ mattress, but ours was a bit thicker (15.5″).
Within the 15.5″ thickness, this mattress has 5 distinct layers. There are three layers of foam at the top and two layers of support material below.
From top to bottom, here are the exact thicknesses of each material:
- 1.0” latex
- 2.0” memory foam
- 3.0” poly foam
- 9.0” pocketed coil
- 0.5” support foam

The Cover
The cover of this mattress is a 4-way stretch knit cover. It is thin and breathable, made of a blend of polyester (98%) and spandex (2%). The sides of the mattress use a fabric that is a bit thicker to help improve durability and give the mattress some structure.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer contains three different types of foam. The top foam is a 1.0″ hole-punched latex foam. This foam is breathable and gives the mattress its fast material response time.

The second foam is a 2.0″ memory foam for deeper compression and good pressure relief.
The third layer of foam is a 3.0″ transitional poly foam. This layer is designed to help sleepers transition well into the support layer below.
The Support Layer
The support system is made up of an 8.0″ layer of pocketed coils followed by a 1.0″ support foam base.

Product Evolution
The Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid was originally launched in 2018 and was reintroduced in 2022 with a few updates including a new sourced latex as well as an improved cover.

For Latex

Birch
9.44 Overall Score
The Birch mattress is a 10″ latex hybrid that uses twice as much latex as the Ashley Sleep Align (2″ thick). It is our top-scoring latex hybrid tested to date, yet is still priced lower than the Ashley Sleep Align Latex Hybrid. This mattress has less sinkage and more bounce, but for a latex hybrid that tends to be more expected.
For Firmness

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Hybrid
9.33 Overall Score
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Hybrid is a 12″ thick hybrid that contains a latex-like poly foam and pocketed coil base. It is available in 3 firmness levels and has higher levels of bounce, while retaining low levels of motion transfer. The Aurora has a 5.5″ comfort layer for excellent pressure relief. The only real disadvantage to the Aurora is worse levels of edge support.
For High-Profile

Nolah Evolution 15
9.28 Overall Score
The Nolah Evolution is a 15″ thick mattress that contains a quilted cover, poly foam, and a pocketed coil base. Although the Evolution skips latex entirely, it still has great performance and a similar feel (including deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce). This mattress offers a 120-night trial period and a lifetime warranty.
