Generally speaking, Sealy mattresses are not great at alleviating back pain. The vast majority of Sealy mattresses that we’ve reviewed in our objective tests score far below the average mattress, based on 400+ tests to date.

Sleepers who struggle with back pain often need a higher-quality mattress with excellent pressure relief, fast response, excellent support, and a firmer feel.
While many Sealy mattresses are quick to respond and have suitable support, most Sealy mattresses we’ve tested have a disappointing level of pressure relief.

The worst Sealy mattress for back pain is the Posturpedic Carver. It has one of the worst pressure relief scores we’ve ever seen. Below you can see the comparison of material layers.

Posturepedic Carver

The Carver comes in two firmness options: Plush and Firm. The firm version is what we tested, and it was far too firm for the majority of sleepers to be good for back pain, in our assessment.
Medium-Firm or Slightly-Firm would be good choices for sleepers who suffer from back pain.
The Posturepedic Plus has both of these options, rated at 5.5 and 7 on our firmness scale.
Most Sealy mattresses have adequate support for most sleepers and sleeping positions. The pocketed coil units and accompanying support foam are thicker than average (8.77″), compared to the average we see in other brands (7.96″).

Posturpedic Spring

On the other hand, the amount of comfort material we’ve found in Sealy mattresses is often less than that of most brands. The average amount of comfort material we see is around 4.25″, where Sealy mattresses are as low as 2.0″ and have an average of 3.82″.
Beyond quantity, a common note in our reviews for Sealy pressure relief is a poor assessment of the poly foam quality used in the comfort layers. Not only will these be poor in the short term, but bad quality foam will deteriorate faster and create even worse pressure relief as time goes on.
