Are Sealy Mattresses Worth It?

Derek Hales

Updated

Whether or not Sealy mattresses are “worth it” depends on what you’re looking for. In our tests, 10 out of the 11 Sealy mattresses perform below average. If you’re looking for high performance, you will likely be disappointed by Sealy.

All that being said, the average Sealy mattress price is only $858 for a queen mattress, well below the average level. If you’re looking for a lower price and are ok with the areas where Sealy performs weaker, it may not be an issue.

According to our testing data, the Sealy Posturepedic Plus Prosser Hills is the mattress most likely to be “worth it” in the Sealy mattress collection. This mattress strikes a nice balance between performance score and price, making it a better value than other Sealy mattresses. Its one downside is a lack of pressure relief.

In addition to price, other factors you may want to consider include:

  1. Cooling
  2. Motion Transfer
  3. Response Time
  4. Edge Support
  5. Sex
  6. Pressure Relief
  7. Off-Gassing
  8. Company

Our NapLab performance tests consider all of these factors. Each of these factors is given a numerical score, based on a mix of objective and subjective data.

Based on your personal needs, it’s possible you could draw a different conclusion, so be sure to check out the data below to compare.

As you can see, each mattress has its own set of advantages and strong categories.

The Sealy Posturepedic Plus Prosser Hills has extremely low motion transfer and strong edge support, but lacks pressure relief.

Below you can see a side-by-side comparison of edge support of the Prosser Hills (best) and the Sealy Icon (worst).

Another great option based on performance was the Posturepedic Pro Lincoln Heights. It has excellent cooling and good all-around performance in most other areas.

The big issue that we found with Sealy mattresses throughout all of our tests was a consistent lack of pressure relief performance. On average, Sealy mattresses earned a pressure relief score of 6.0, which is dramatically lower than the average across all brands tested to date (8.6)

When we look at the common factor responsible for pressure point build-up with Sealy mattresses, it keeps coming back to a lack of comfort material—quantity and quality. However, one Sealy mattress stood out from the rest, and that was the Sealy Posturepedic Plus Hybrid. It earned an excellent score of 9.0.
