The best mattresses for kids are compatible with the needs of younger sleepers, but are also durable enough to last through the changes of childhood and beyond.
Before we get started, let’s talk through a couple of myths about mattresses for kids.
Myth #1: Kids sleep best on mattresses only designed for kids.
Many of the most popular mattress brands have a mattress they call their “kids” or “youth” mattress. These mattresses oftentimes have thinner profiles, less robust materials, and a weight limit that severely restricts the longevity of the mattress.
Many children’s mattresses have a weight limit of around 120 pounds. If you are shopping for an older kid or teen, this means they could very quickly outgrow the mattress.
As a result, we typically recommend looking for budget-friendly adult mattresses for kids, as those mattresses are made with a more robust design, better materials, and will have much better longevity.
Myth #2: Adult mattresses are not good for kids.
Any relatively low-profile mattress with good materials and good performance can also make a great mattress for kids.
In most cases, it ends up being a better value to opt for a mattress that can support your child for longer.
By choosing a budget-friendly adult mattress, you’re getting a great mattress that will last them into their late teen or early adult years without the fear of maxing out the weight capacity.
So with these notes in mind, let’s get started.

Each best list is put through a customized performance analysis with specialized consideration given to our objective & data-driven performance tests. In addition, we consider mattress type, design, materials, value, price, and more.

For our Best Mattress for Kids list, we based our selections on the best-scoring mattresses, according to our battery of testing and formulaic driven scoring.
Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).
Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.
Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.
In choosing the best mattresses for kids we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.
In addition to achieving a high performance score, all mattresses on this list have a value price, and are designed to grow well with your kids as they age.
When selecting the best mattress for kids, we’re looking at a combination of overall scoring performance, firmness, price, and US availability.
To be included within this list all mattresses:
- Had to be priced under $1,100 for a Queen
- Had to have a firmness between 5-7, an ideal range for children, kids, teens, and adults alike.
- Had to have a performance score of 8.86 or higher.
- Had to be available for purchase within the USA.
Lastly, we made room for one honorable mention that did not meet the performance score critiera. That mattress is the Siena Signature 10″, which has a score of 8.39. This mattress was included due to it’s incredibly budget-friendly price point (just $179 for a Twin). For parents who need to keep budget to an absolute minimum this is the best option by far.

Boring Hybrid

Best For
- Excellent cooling with modern foam and hybrid design
- Fast responding materials and high bounce for great ease of movement
- Full-year trial period
Considerations
- Worse motion transfer than average
- Warranty is only 10 years
- Slightly longer off-gassing period
Our Verdict
The Boring Hybrid is a 10″ hybrid mattress made of 2 poly foam layers, a 6.0″ pocketed coil unit, and a 1.0″ support base foam. Its cover is a thin, soft knit that is breathable and stretchy.
The Boring Hybrid is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm. This is a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm.
This mattress has deep sinkage and high levels of bounce. This creates a lively surface that still provides a fair amount of hug around the body. Though this hug will not be as dramatic or polarizing as a memory foam mattress.
For kids, the great cooling and pressure relief will be appreciated, as well as its super lively surface for playing. Its thinner design is also easier to move and makes it easier to get in and out of.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.93, ranking the mattress in the top 27% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Boring Hybrid is $799 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 46% less than average. If you only need a twin-size mattress, the price goes down to $599. Altogether, this is a great mattress that can stay in use from child to adult.

Latex Mattress Factory Luxerion Hybrid

Best For
- Natural, organic materials
- Fantastic cooling with a perforated latex layer
- Very fast material response time
Considerations
- Latex can be a polarizing feel – some love it, others don’t
- Shorter 100-night trial, 79 nights shorter than average
- $99 return fee
Our Verdict
The Latex Mattress Factory Luxerion Hybrid is the first latex mattress to be featured on our best mattress for kids list. It has an organic cotton cover, latex comfort layers, and a pocketed coil base.
It is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, with a medium-firm feel.
This mattress has moderate sinkage and bounce, but being latex, it’s got a drastically different feel than the other mattresses featured. Latex is more polarizing and has a generalized contour. Sleepers aren’t going to get that exacting contour that is common with memory foam mattresses.
For kids, the latex hybrid design is incredibly easy to move on and never feel stuck in the layers. The natural foam material emits no synthetic odors for those who are worried about a strong off-gassing period.
In our performance tests, the Luxerion Hybrid earned an 8.88 overall. This mattress ranks in the top 29% comparing all mattresses tested to date.
The Luxerion Hybrid is $979 for a queen or $679 for a twin mattress. This is 34% less expensive than the average mattress. Exclusively looking at latex hybrids, this mattress is 49% cheaper, making it a standout value for its category. If you prioritize natural and/or organic materials, the Luxerion is an especially good choice.

Amerisleep AS2

Best For
- Low motion transfer provides a safe surface to extricate oneself after bedtime
- Excellent pressure relief with added transitional foam layer
- Classic memory foam feel
Considerations
- Less lively surface for more of a dead feeling
- Shorter trial period of only 100 nights
- More expensive than most other options on this list
Our Verdict
The Amerisleep AS2 is a 12″ memory foam mattress made of a memory foam comfort layer, poly foam transition layer, and a high-density support layer.
The Amerisleep AS2 is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm.
This mattress has moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce. The AS2 provides a classic memory foam feel with dramatic hug around one’s body, even if the sinkage is not deep.
For kids, the 12″ thickness with sufficient transition foam means the mattress could stay suitable into adulthood. The low motion transfer allows for parents to come and go with less of a risk of disturbing any sleepers.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.87, ranking the mattress in the 30% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Amerisleep AS2 is $1,049 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 29% less expensive than average. While more than other mattresses on this list, its still well within most budgets, especially for a mattress that can last until adulthood with a 20 year warranty.

Zoma Hybrid

Best For
- Deep sinkage, good for side sleepers or kids who like more contour
- Low levels of motion transfer, 54% less than average
- Faster off-gassing than average
Considerations
- Slow material response time (1.8 seconds for full recovery)
- 100-night trial is shorter than the 179-night average trial
- 12″ thickness may be too thick for young sleepers needing a low-profile design
Our Verdict
The Zoma Hybrid is a 12″ hybrid mattress with a thin cover, gel memory foam comfort layer, and pocketed coil base. It has a simple design, but is also a solid performer for kids.
This mattress is available in a single firmness, 5 out of 10, with a medium feel.
It has deep sinkage and moderate bounce. This comes with a dramatic contour and hug around the body, more so than many poly foams and/or mattresses with a thick quilted cover.
For kids, the deeper sinkage makes it a good choice for side sleepers, especially in older children and teens. Its thick, gel memory foam layer will dramatically conform around their body, which contributes to its top-tier pressure relief.
In our performance tests, the Zoma Hybrid scored an overall score of 8.86. This performance puts the Zoma Hybrid in the top 32% of all mattresses tested.
A Queen mattress costs $974, and a Twin mattress is $711, making the Zoma 34% less expensive than the average mattress. If you’re looking for a hybrid with deeper sinkage and a slightly softer feel than almost all other mattresses on this list, the Zoma Hybrid is a solid buy.

Silk & Snow Hybrid

Best For
- Extremely budget-friendly, 46% less expensive than average
- Great pressure relief with 11.5″ profile
- Long trial period (365 nights)
Considerations
- Cooling is good, but not exactly incredible
- Mattress smelled for 7 days
Our Verdict
The Silk & Snow Hybrid is an 11.5″ hybrid mattress with a plush, quilted cover, poly foam comfort layer, and pocketed coil base. A reinforced foam runs around the perimeter of this hybrid giving it great edge support.
It is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, with a medium-firm feel.
The Silk & Snow has deep sinkage and high levels of bounce. This is actually the first hybrid on our best mattress for kids list to offer bounce at this level (10.54″), which is 10% more bounce than average.
For kids, the higher bounce makes the mattress easier to move around on, whether for fun or ease of getting out of bed in the morning. In addition, the below-average motion transfer means you’re less likely to wake them up after putting them to sleep while getting up from their bed.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.86, ranking the mattress in the top 32% of all mattresses tested.
The real benefit of the Silk & Snow is in the value. This mattress costs only $800 for a queen, and only $600 for a twin size. Similar to the Boring Hybrid, this Silk & Snow provides remarkable support and pressure relief for a fantastic price.

Siena Signature 10″

Best For
- Ultra low price – under $200 for a twin-size mattress
- Supportive edge for sitting and lying on all sides of the mattress
- Fast material response that avoids a stuck feeling
Considerations
- Good, but not great motion transfer
- Good, but not great cooling performance
- Material quality is fine, but also not incredible
Our Verdict
The Siena Signature 10″ is a 10″ memory foam mattress that uses memory foam and poly foam in its comfort layer, and 6″ of support foam for its base.
The Siena Signature 10″ is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm.
This mattress has moderate sinkage and very low levels of bounce. Despite only being 1 inch, the memory foam layer provides a dramatic amount of contour and hug.
For kids, the Siena has sufficient materials to support children, kids, and many adult bodies also (up to 250 pounds).
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.39, ranking the mattress in the bottom 31% of all mattresses tested to date. However, for an all-foam mattress, the Siena is within the top 45%.
The Siena Signature 10″ is $359 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 76% less expensive than average price. And a twin-size costs only $179. For a quarter of the average mattress price, the Siena is an incredible value pick. If money is super tight, then this is absolutely the right choice.
