Each best list is put through a customized performance analysis with specialized consideration given to our objective & data-driven performance tests. In addition, we consider mattress type, design, materials, value, price, and more.

For our Best Hybrid Mattress list, we based our selections on the best-scoring mattresses, according to our battery of testing and formulaic-driven scoring.
Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).
Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.
Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.
In choosing the best hybrid mattresses, we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.
When selecting the best hybrid mattress, we’re looking at a combination of mattress design, overall scoring performance, firmness, and US availability.
To be included within this best-of list all mattresses:
- Had to be classified as a hybrid design
- Had to have a firmness between 4-7 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This ranges from soft to slightly firm and covers a wide range of sleeper preferences
- Had to have a performance of 9.24 or higher
- Had to be available within the USA
- Latex and latex hybrid mattresses were limited to the top 2 picks by score. Latex has a polarizing feel that some love and some hate. It’s a far more polarizing feel than poly foam or memory foam. See our best latex mattresses list for more.
Outliers that met the criteria above, but were still excluded for other reasons are listed below.
Mattress | Score | Reason |
---|---|---|
Diamond Flurry Lux | 9.32 | Brand is not widely known by sleepers |
Nolah Natural | 9.30 | List restricted to top 2 latex hybrid mattresses |

Winkbed Mattress

Best For
- Exceptional cooling performance
- Fantastic edge support with only 2.25″ sinkage when seated
- 5.0″ comfort layer provides outstanding pressure relief
Considerations
- Returns are free, but exchanges cost $49
- 14″ profile may not be great for a low-profile aesthetic
- Deep sinkage of 2.38″
Our Verdict
The WinkBed is a hybrid mattress with a 5.0″ comfort layer of gel foam, poly foam, and support foam, paired with a picketed coil base. It has a plush Euro cover, which gives the mattress a luxury feel, and is the best hybrid we’ve tested to date (comparing 290+ mattresses tested).
This mattress has deep sinkage, which is great if you love more hug around the body. Bounce levels are moderate (9.91″), which is just slightly more than the average.
Aside from the performance, one of the biggest advantages of the Winkbed is that it comes in three firmness levels. It has a softer version (4 out of 10), a luxury firm (with a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10), and a firmer version (8 out of 10). This provides a wide variety of firmness and makes it easier to suit the preferences of a wider range of sleepers.
In our performance scores, the Winkbed scores a 9.82, ranking in to the top 1% of all mattresses tested to date. This score also earns it the title of #1 best hybrid mattress.
A queen Winkbed is $1,499, 12% more than the average hybrid (a difference of $164). While the price is more than average, the performance is significantly better than average as well. As a result, the Winkbed is an amazingly good value mattress.

Best For
- Exceptional pressure relief, especially for an 11″ mattress
- Low levels of motion transfer, 47% less than average
- Outstanding cooling performance
Considerations
- Sitting edge support is lacking, 6.25″ of sinkage
- Very high levels of bounce may not be ideal for all sleepers
- Priced 20% more than the average hybrid

Sinkage levels are moderate and bounce levels are very high, 33% more bounce than the average mattress. For sleepers looking for an engaging mattress without excessively deep contour and hug, the Sapira is a nice pick.
This mattress is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, which gives the Sapira a medium-firm feel.
In our performance tests the Leesa Sapira earns an overall score of 9.50, ranking within the top 1% of all hybrid mattresses tested to date and the top 2% compared to all mattress types.

Saatva Latex Hybrid

Best For
- Very fast material response time
- Extremely low levels of motion transfer, 65% less than average
- Exceptional edge support, only 3.0″ of sinkage
- Ships uncompressed with full service delivery (and disposal of your old mattress)
Considerations
- 33% more expensive than the average latex hybrid

The Saatva Latex Hybrid is available in one firmness, 6.5 out of 10, giving the mattress a medium-firm to slightly firm feel.
When we tested this mattress, the Saatva earned an overall score of 9.48, ranking in the top 1% of all latex hybrids, and the top 2% of all mattresses tested (over 290+ compared).
For the price, the Saatva Latex Hybrid is $2,095 for a queen, 33% more expensive than the average latex hybrid. This will cost you $518 more than average, but given the better performance, you’re getting a better-than-average latex hybrid.

How Do We Test Hybrid Mattresses
The best hybrid mattresses maintain an overall performance score of 9.24 or higher and include a range of prices, mattress types, firmnesses, and feels. This overall score is developed using a series of 8 performance tests.

Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company.
You can see our complete testing and scoring process here.
How do we pick the best hybrid winners?
In choosing the best hybrid mattresses, we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.
For this page, we considered latex hybrids, memory foam hybrids, and hybrids (which is a non-specific hybrid type as they use a combination of foam types or foams without a distinctly latex or memory foam feel).
Each of these hybrid mattress types has a different feel, pros, cons, and yet maintains a hybrid construction of foam and coils together.

How did we choose the hybrid mattresses we tested?
We’ve personally tested 145 different hybrid mattresses to date. Among the hybrids tested, 97 are hybrids, 24 are latex hybrids, and 24 are memory foam hybrids.

From this collection of hybrids, we select the winners featured on this list.
To be included on this list the mattresses needed to meet the following criteria:
- Mattress must be a hybrid (hybrid = thick foam comfort layer + coils)
- Mattress must have an overall performance score at or above 9.24
- Mattress must be available for purchase within the USA
What is a hybrid mattress?
A hybrid mattress has a combination of a thick foam comfort layer and a support layer of coils (typically pocketed coils). The comfort layer can be a mix of material types, commonly poly foam, memory foam, or latex foam.
They can have a range of cover options as well, from breathable thin covers to plush quilted covers with luxury tufting details.

The support system of a hybrid typically consists of pocketed coils, but it can also be a more traditional innerspring unit or other continuous coil system.
Different Types of Hybrid Mattresses
Hybrids can come in a variety of material combinations, as mentioned above. The three most common types of hybrids include:
1. Hybrid
Hybrid mattresses use a combination of materials within the comfort layer commonly:
- memory foam + poly foam
- latex foam + poly foam
- memory foam + latex foam
- one or more layers of poly foam
Testing Factors | Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|
Overall Score | 8.61 | 8.57 |
Cooling | 8.7 | 8.7 |
Motion Transfer | 8.0 | 8.1 |
Response Time | 8.8 | 8.9 |
Edge Support | 8.7 | 8.6 |
Sex | 8.8 | 8.4 |
Pressure Relief | 8.8 | 8.7 |
Off-Gassing | 8.1 | 8.2 |
Company | 8.7 | 8.6 |
Sinkage | 2.22″ | 2.16″ |
Bounce | 10.30″ | 9.48″ |
Mixing poly foam in with other foam types tends to give the mattress a more balanced feel compared to the feel of memory foam hybrids or latex hybrids.

If you’re unsure which hybrid type you should go with a standard hybrid is typically the best choice. These hybrids will have the most balanced, even, and non-polarizing feel. They are a good fit for a majority of sleepers.

2. Memory Foam Hybrid
Memory foam hybrids have a top layer of memory foam for the comfort layer or a combination of memory foam and a poly foam. The support system is still a pocketed coil or otherwise spring-based support.
Testing Factors | Memory Foam Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|
Overall Score | 8.70 | 8.57 |
Cooling | 9.1 | 8.7 |
Motion Transfer | 8.2 | 8.1 |
Response Time | 8.3 | 8.9 |
Edge Support | 8.5 | 8.6 |
Sex | 8.3 | 8.4 |
Pressure Relief | 9.3 | 8.7 |
Off-Gassing | 7.9 | 8.2 |
Company | 8.7 | 8.6 |
Sinkage | 2.21″ | 2.16″ |
Bounce | 8.92″ | 9.48″ |
While memory foam hybrids sometimes contain poly foam layers also, a memory foam hybrid should always create a more noted memory foam feel.

The type of mattress generally has a slower material response time, deeper contour, lower motion transfer, more body hug, and fantastic pressure relief performance.

3. Latex Hybrid
Latex hybrids have a comfort latex made primarily of natural latex. These layers are oftentimes perforated (or hole-punched), providing improved breathability.
Testing Factors | Latex Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|
Overall Score | 8.88 | 8.57 |
Cooling | 9.1 | 8.7 |
Motion Transfer | 7.7 | 8.1 |
Response Time | 9.9 | 8.9 |
Edge Support | 8.9 | 8.6 |
Sex | 9.3 | 8.4 |
Pressure Relief | 8.8 | 8.7 |

Company | 9.1 | 8.6 |
Sinkage | 2.32″ | 2.16″ |
Bounce | 12.41″ | 9.48″ |
Latex creates a more generalized body contouring hug, has an incredibly fast material responsiveness, higher bounce, more motion transfer, great sex performance, and lower off-gassing.

The most common latex is Talalay latex or Dunlop latex, both of which are derived from natural sources. Like the other hybrids, latex hybrids still have a pocketed coil base or other spring-based system.

Should You Buy A Hybrid?
I would recommend a hybrid mattress for sleepers who are looking for the following:
1. Higher Overall Performance
Hybrids have an overall performance score of 8.61 compared to the average performance score of 8.57. Looking at our top 20 best mattresses tested to date, only two of those mattresses are all-foam.
Score | Hybrids | Memory Foam Hybrids | Latex Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|---|
Overall Score | 8.61 | 8.70 | 8.88 | 8.57 |
Hybrids dominate the list of top performers and represent the best of the best in the modern mattress market.

2. Better Edge Support
Hybrids have an average edge support score of 8.7, just barely beating the overall average score of 8.6. Great edge support on hybrids is largely a product of the coil-based support system.
Latex hybrids in particular earned notably better than average scores with an 8.9. That said, memory foam hybrids were a bit below average.
Testing Factors | Hybrids | Memory Foam Hybrids | Latex Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|---|
Edge Support Score | 8.7 | 8.5 | 8.9 | 8.6 |
Edge Sinkage | 3.88″ | 4.31″ | 3.88″ | 4.05″ |
Looking at all mattresses tested that earned a 10/10 edge support score, only 15% of those didn’t have coil-based support.

3. Better Sex Performance
The same coils that improve edge support also enhance bounce. Hybrids have an average bounce level of 10.30″, 8% bouncier than the average mattress.
Testing Factors | Hybrids | Memory Foam Hybrids | Latex Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|---|
Sex | 8.8 | 8.3 | 9.3 | 8.4 |
Bounce | 10.30″ | 8.92″ | 12.41″ | 9.48″ |
When we combine great edge support with great bounce, we get great sex performance.
Within the list of mattresses that earned a sex score of 9.9 or 10, 100% of those mattresses are some type of hybrid. (latex hybrid, plus-sized hybrid, specialty hybrid, etc.)

4. Better Pressure Relief
The combination of robust foam comfort layers, high performance foams, higher quality foams, and supportive coil bases provides exceptional pressure relief in many cases.
Testing Factors | Hybrids | Memory Foam Hybrids | Latex Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|---|
Pressure Relief | 8.8 | 9.3 | 8.8 | 8.7 |
Comfort Layer Thickness | 4.13″ | 4.45″ | 3.35″ | 4.09″ |
As a sleeper lays on a hybrid mattress, the foam conforms and hugs the body, easing pressure points as their weight engages with the support layers below.

Looking exclusively at mattresses that earned a 10/10 pressure relief score, only 27% of those mattresses are foam. This probably also has something to do with the average hybrid thickness being 12.58″, over 1/2″ thicker than the average among all mattress types.
5. Slightly Deeper Sinkage
Hybrid mattresses have 0.06″ deeper sinkage than average. This is a slight difference but could be worth noting if you are particular about this issue.
Testing Factors | Hybrids | Memory Foam Hybrids | Latex Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|---|
Sinkage | 2.22″ | 2.21″ | 2.32″ | 2.16″ |
That being said, there are always hybrids that break the mold with either minimal sinkage or very deep sinkage.
Minimal Sinkage

Deep Sinkage

Among all the hybrids we’ve tested to date, our tests grouped sinkage levels in the following way:
Sinkage Feel | Number of Hybrids Tested |
---|---|
Extremely Minimal | 1 |
Very Minimal | 2 |
Minimal | 26 |
Moderate | 29 |
Deep | 26 |
Very Deep | 8 |
Extremely Deep | 5 |
You can use our mattress finder tool here for additional search and filter options.
6. Slightly More Bounce
Hybrid mattresses have 0.82″ more bounce than average of 9.48″, based on all of our tests to date. Furthermore, latex hybrids are significantly more than average, being 2.93″ over the average.
Testing Factors | Hybrids | Memory Foam Hybrids | Latex Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 10.30″ | 8.92″ | 12.41″ | 9.48″ |
Below you can see how hybrid mattresses compare at different tiers of bounce. While there are some hybrids will lower bounce, most are with the high, very high, or extremely high bounce tier.
Bounce Feel | Number of Hybrids Tested |
---|---|
Extremely High | 18 |
Very High | 26 |
High | 28 |
Moderate | 23 |
Low | 1 |
Very Low | 1 |
Extremely Low | 0 |
For hybrids with the least amount of bounce, check out memory foam hybrids. The viscoelasticity in the memory foam really helps to limit motion and restrict bounce levels.
Who Should Not Buy A Hybrid?
I would not recommend a hybrid for sleepers who are deeply concerned with the following issues:
1. Higher Average Price
While hybrids are cheaper than some mattress types, they are also more expensive than many other types. Hybrids have a higher average mattress price than coil mattresses, foam, or memory foam mattresses.
Mattress Type | Average Price |
---|---|
Coil | $1,057 |
Foam | $1,133 |
Memory Foam | $1,145 |
Hybrid | $1,335 |
Memory Foam Hybrid | $1,555 |
Latex Hybrid | $1,557 |
Plus-Sized | $1,665 |
Latex Foam | $1,846 |
Adjustable | $2,156 |
Specialty | $2,167 |
If you don’t need the extra support or higher performance, opting for an all-foam mattress can save you some cash compared to a hybrid mattress. Here is a quick list of foam mattresses under $1000 for a queen.
2. Slightly More Motion Transfer
Hybrids have an average motion transfer level of 9.30 m/s² compared to the average motion transfer across all mattresses tested to date (8.78 m/s²). Latex hybrids in particular are even higher, at 9.96 m/s² on average.
Testing Factors | Hybrids | Memory Foam Hybrids | Latex Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|---|
Motion Transfer Score | 8.0 | 8.2 | 7.7 | 8.1 |
Motion Transfer Data | 9.30 m/s² | 8.66 m/s² | 9.96 m/s² | 8.78 m/s² |
That being said, like the other factors, there are some outstanding hybrids that break the mold and maintain low levels of motion transfer—ie: the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite, GhostBed Flex, or Leesa Sapira. More broadly speaking, memory foam hybrids have less motion transfer than average.
3. Slightly Slower Off-Gassing
The average off-gassing period for a hybrid mattress is 6.7 days compared to the average across all mattresses tested (6.4 days). As you can see, this difference is minimal, but hybrids are technically slower to off-gas than average.
Testing Factors | Hybrids | Memory Foam Hybrids | Latex Hybrids | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|---|
Off-Gassing Score | 8.1 | 7.9 | 8.4 | 8.2 |
Off-Gassing Days | 6.7 Days | 7.5 Days | 5.8 Days | 6.4 Days |
For hybrids with no off-gassing, opt for the Winkbed or Saatva RX, or go with a latex hybrid, which on average has a below average off-gassing period and the smell intensity isn’t typically as intense as memory or poly foam.
4. You Want A Dramatic Body Contouring Hug
A hybrid mattress just is not going to have the dramatic hug and contour of a memory foam mattress. This is neither a good nor bad thing, but a hybrid may be disappointing if you’re specifically looking for that in a mattress.

Do you like sinking in and feeling the hug of a mattress? Do you want foam layers to dramatically contour every curve? If you’re specifically looking for that kind of feel, a hybrid might not be the right choice for you.

For a more dramatic contour with the support of coils, you could check out our top memory foam hybrid reviews. A memory foam hybrid can provide more of this feel, but even a memory foam hybrid will typically not be as dramatic as a 100% memory foam mattress.
How Much Does A Hybrid Mattress Cost?
The average price for a hybrid is $1,335 for a queen mattress.
The average price for a memory foam hybrid mattress is $1,555 for a queen mattress.
The average price for a latex hybrid mattress is $1,577 for a queen mattress.
Mattress Type | Average Price | Average Score |
---|---|---|
Hybrid | $1,335 | 8.61 |
Memory Foam Hybrid | $1,555 | 8.70 |
Latex Hybrid | $1,557 | 8.80 |
If you’re in the market for a good hybrid, it’s a good idea to plan to spend at least $1,000.

Based on all of our tests to date, only 18% of hybrid mattresses with above-average performance have a price that is below $1000 for a queen-sized mattress.
Can you find a hybrid for less? Absolutely. Looking at all hybrids tested, 8% of them have a low price of under $700. But these mattresses are also not high performers and rank in the bottom 27% of all hybrids tested.
Cheap hybrids oftentimes use lower quality materials, have thin comfort layers, or other disadvantages like a short trial or poor warranty.
Here is how the price of a hybrid compares to other mattress types.
Mattress Type | Average Price | Average Score |
---|---|---|
Coil | $1,057 | 7.72 |
Foam | $1,133 | 8.47 |
Memory Foam | $1,145 | 8.22 |
Hybrid | $1,335 | 8.61 |
Memory Foam Hybrid | $1,555 | 8.70 |
Latex Hybrid | $1,557 | 8.80 |
Plus-Sized | $1,665 | 9.02 |
Latex Foam | $1,846 | 8.70 |
Adjustable | $2,156 | 8.73 |
Specialty | $2,167 | 8.82 |
Hybrid Mattress Types Comparison
The sections below compare hybrid mattresses to other popular mattress types.
Hybrid vs. Memory Foam
Compared to memory foam mattresses, hybrids have a higher performance score by 0.39 points. Hybrids also have a slightly higher price tag, $190 more than the average memory foam mattress.
The Feel Factor: Memory foam mattresses have more contour and hug, while hybrids generally have a more balanced feel and faster response time.
Testing Factors | Hybrid | Memory Foam | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|
Overall Score | 8.61 | 8.22 | 8.57 |
Cooling | 8.7 | 8.2 | 8.7 |
Motion Transfer | 8.0 | 8.8 | 8.1 |
Response Time | 8.8 | 8.2 | 8.9 |
Edge Support | 8.7 | 7.8 | 8.6 |
Sex | 8.8 | 7.2 | 8.4 |
Pressure Relief | 8.8 | 8.5 | 8.7 |
Off-Gassing | 8.1 | 8.1 | 8.2 |
Company | 8.7 | 8.3 | 8.6 |
Sinkage | 2.22″ | 2.15″ | 2.16″ |
Bounce | 10.30″ | 6.52″ | 9.48″ |

If you want a mattress that contours your unique shape and you’re not worried about feeling stuck, opt for traditional memory foam. For the feel of memory foam paired with the advantages of a hybrid, check out memory foam hybrids.
A memory foam hybrid will have the top comfort layer of memory foam with a supportive and responsive coil base of a hybrid. Memory foam hybrids will also typically last longer than a traditional memory foam mattress.
Hybrid vs. Latex
Compared to all foam latex mattresses, hybrids have a slightly lower performance score by 0.09 points. But hybrids also have a lower price tag, saving $511 compared to the average foam latex mattress.
The Feel Factor: Latex mattresses have a generalized contour, higher bounce, faster response, more motion transfer, and a more active feel compared to hybrids.
Testing Factors | Hybrid | Latex | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|
Overall Score | 8.61 | 8.70 | 8.57 |
Cooling | 8.7 | 9.1 | 8.7 |
Motion Transfer | 8.0 | 7.3 | 8.1 |
Response Time | 8.8 | 10 | 8.9 |
Edge Support | 8.7 | 8.3 | 8.6 |
Sex | 8.8 | 8.5 | 8.4 |
Pressure Relief | 8.8 | 9.0 | 8.7 |
Off-Gassing | 8.1 | 9.2 | 8.2 |
Company | 8.7 | 8.3 | 8.6 |
Sinkage | 2.22″ | 2.01″ | 2.16″ |
Bounce | 10.30″ | 9.44″ | 9.48″ |
Latex foam is generally perforated during the production process, which helps to further improve cooling. For a mattress that has the cooling and feel of latex, but a lower price than all-foam latex, check out latex hybrids.

Hybrid vs. Foam
Compared to all-foam mattresses, hybrids have a higher performance score by 0.14 points. Hybrids also have a slightly higher price tag, $202 more than the average foam mattress.
The Feel Factor: Because the top layers are foam on both of these types, they may have a similar feel, but hybrids generally have better pressure relief and are more supportive, with the capacity to support heavier sleepers without sagging.
Testing Factors | Hybrid | Foam | Average Mattress |
---|---|---|---|
Overall Score | 8.61 | 8.47 | 8.57 |
Cooling | 8.7 | 8.2 | 8.7 |
Motion Transfer | 8.0 | 8.6 | 8.1 |

Coil mattresses usually have some small amount of foam atop the coils, but usually nothing substantial.

Because of this, coil mattresses have less sinkage (2.18″ average) and more bounce (11.08″ average), giving coil mattresses an active feel.
But pressure relief can be lacking on a coil mattress since they typicall don’t have as thick of a comfort layer compared to hybrid mattresses.
FAQs
Hybrid mattresses can be expected to last anywhere from 8-12 years depending on material quality and care / maintenance. Latex hybrids typically last longer than other hybrid types.
All mattresses will sag and form body impressions over time and hybrid mattresses are no exception. Higher-end hybrids with denser, thicker, higher-quality foams will sag less and take longer to start sagging. In addition, hybrids with thicker, higher-quality coil systems will sag less and take longer to start sagging. Make sure your hybrid mattress is on a high-performance foundation and follows all other manufacturer guidelines. This will help to further reduce and prevent sagging.
Yes. Most hybrid mattresses can go on a box spring, but usually don’t have to. When paired with a supportive foundation, like a box foundation, bunkie board, slats, platform, or other rigid support, a hybrid can take on a low-profile aesthetic. Always follow your manufacturer’s guidelines on which foundations are approved for your mattress.
