In 2014, Derek founded Sleeopopolis.com, a website that tested and reviewed mattresses, including Casper’s. In 2016, Casper Sleep sued Derek Hales and Sleepopolis about those reviews. The lawsuit settled, and Derek sold Sleepopolis to a company that ran a competing review website. That company’s purchase of Sleepopolis from Derek was financed by a loan provided by Casper.
